Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument

This park is State Route 12, a scenic byway, between Panguitch and Torrey, Utah.  124 mile of two lane road crosses the staircase which is continuously changing in elevation between 4,000' and 9400'.  Lots of long ups and downs with several 14% grades thrown in. The scenery changes constantly also.  A unique remote landscape. Miles and miles of rock, shrubs, trees, slot canyons, a few waterfalls, irrigated grass valleys and four small towns. A four hour drive and several 1/2 mile hikes. A great motorcycle road but the Squirrel liked it too. You could spend a month up here between driving, hiking, ATVing, horseback riding,and resting.
